Date of Initiation

The Department of Physics started its journey in 2006 with B.Sc. general course under the University of Burdwan. In 2016, the department has initiated honours courses in physics under the headship of Prof. Goutam Mandal. The intake capacity at that time was 15. In 2017, the department continued its journey under Bankura University. This is the only girls' college in the district of Bankura where physics honours is being run. Physics honours intake capacity has been increased to 40 by the affiliating university due to huge demand. From the academic year 2023-24, the intake capacity has been increased to 65 in Physics Major Course. The department organized a two-day UGC Sponsored National Seminar on “Environmental Education-A Need of The Day” in April 2017, in collaboration with Chemistry, Geography and Economics departments of this college. The department provides a very vibrant and dynamic academic ambiance with effective tutorial classes, group discussions and student seminars. The department facilitates opportunities for higher studies and placements through the Carrier Guidance Cell of this college. The department has four well equipped with Wi-Fi facility and modern laboratories along with a computer laboratory and a dark room. The departmental library is enriched with more than 100 volumes of books. A number of students from the department got opportunity in admission to Masters Degree in various Universities like The University of Calcutta, Visva-Bharati University, Bankura University, IIT Jammu, IISC Bangalore and many other reputed Universities.

VISION:

The Department of Physics accomplishes to furnish students to compete and contribute to the various scientific advancements both in pure and applied physics. The department motivates the students to become researcher in near future so that they become builders of modern society in general and the country at large. It trains the minds of young physicists towards application oriented research work by providing students with multiple learning opportunities like Ability based learning, role-play, formal courses with integrated laboratory, and colloquium programs
